Our History

The history of UKPH is rich, with deep roots reaching right back to 1950.

In 1950 a society was formed by Glenda Spooner, a lady who bred riding ponies and owned the much loved stallion of the time, Ardencaple. The society was branded Ponies of Britain providing a show at Ascot in the Spring and then come 1960 an additional 2 day show at Peterborough.

In the late 1980's Joan Lee-Smith took over the society and rebranded it the infamous Ponies Association (UK). In 2003, Joan passed the batten to her daughter Davina Whiteman who was the Chairman of P(UK) until 2017. Davina was formidable, the society going from strength to strength with shows being held regularly throughout the UK. The P(UK) Summer Championships held at The East of England Showground were the highlight of many peoples summer, the classes were held over 4 days in 10 rings with Evening Performances every night, providing fun, friendships and entertainment for all.
